Happy Holidays - RSS aggregation without aggravation - via ALLTOP

I want information. I do not want information overload. Google Reader is my news, blog and website aggregator of choice. BUT.....recently I have been going to Alltop because there, the aggregation has been taken care of already. It is more user-friendly somehow. I was able to see clearly the 5 most recent posts from a very wide selection of topics, 750 topics to be precise. Suddenly, I was able to access more information, more quickly from more sources. Sound Good? Yeah, I thought so.

So here´s my present to you. I realised that it was so easy to set up my own MyAlltop page, where I could select exactly the topics that interested me. I just took 30 minutes and set my own one up. It´s that easy. It´s a work in progress, as I am sure I will make lots of changes as I take more time to see what´s there.

So why don´t you check it out http://my.alltop.com/becbarcelona , or build your own or build one for someone you know who would love to have there own digital English magazine rack. I think perhaps there has never been an easier, or quicker way to access so much great English reading material! Here´s a excerpt from Guy Kawasaki´s post on Alltop yesterday which will show you the way.

Here are the steps:

  1. Create a MyAlltop account in their name. Be sure to use your email address, so that you get our confirmation otherwise they’ll get it and wonder what’s going on.

  2. Make a mental or physical list of their passions. If you don’t know which topics, blogs, or websites they like, casually bring up the question.

  3. Compare their list to Alltop’s topics. You can see all the topics or you can search by categories, keywords, and topic name. With over 750 topics, you will find ones that interest them. For example:

  • Add feeds to their MyAlltop page. Go to a topic and pick a handful of feeds that will appeal to them by clicking on the +. This is the most challenging step because you may not know much about the topic. But, as a rule of thumb, the most popular feeds are on the top part of an Alltop page.

Happy Holidays and I´ll be posting periodically, so feel free to check the blog when it´s good for you, or subscribe by email or RSS for free.

Thanks for making BEC´s blog part of your routine, and I look forward to bringing you lots of great stuff to practice your English while exercising your mind in 2010!
